Everything with a Purpose-2
Proverbs 16:4 “GOD made everything with a…purpose…” (MSG)
Do you think you just appeared here like Solomon Grundy? I’m sure you still remember that nursery rhyme by James Orchard Halliwell that was first published in 1842. I’m sure you sang it in Nursery school. Let me refesh your memory:
Solomon Grundy…Born on a Monday…Christened on Tuesday…Married on Wednesday…Took ill on Thursday…Grew worse on Friday…Died on Saturday…Buried on Sunday…That was the end of Solomon Grundy.
There is more to you and to your life than that. But if you don’t discover it you’ll end up like Solomon Grundy or even Methuselah. If you substitute Solomon Grundy with Methuselah, it will be a perfect match. If you don’t believe me read his story in Genesis 5:25-27. The oldest man that ever lived had his whole life summarised in 3 verses of scripture. How sad! In fact I think Solomon Grundy even did better than him. Methuselah lived 969 years, he grew up, got married, gave birth and gave birth, then died. Before you blame him however, take stock of your own life. What significant thing have you done or are doing? You were born, went to school, finished school, got a job, got married, gave birth, gave birth again, keep working while your children grow up so that they can repeat the cycle. Is that not similar to Grundy and Methusalah?
Friend, you’re not here to be trapped in that vicious cycle! There is much more to your life than what I call the “Methuselah or Solomon Grundy syndrome”! You’re here for a bigger purpose than that. You must discover it and serve God and humanity with it.
So how do I know my purpose? Let’s discuss some points:
1. Ask the creator. Borrowing the words of King James, verily verily I say unto you, nobody and I repeat nobody can know the purpose of a thing better than the manufacturer!
Genesis 45:8 “So you see, it wasn’t you who sent me here but God…” (to be continued)
