I dare you-1
I dare you-1
1 Sam.17:8 “…choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.”
1 Sam.17:9 “If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.”
Goliath threw a dare to Israel. He dared Israel to send a man to fight him. One man against a country! Interesting…When I was much younger, I’m sure when you were too, there was this “game” we use to play. We call it “I Dare You”. Your friends, will dare you to try something dangerous. If you refuse to take the dare everybody laughs at you. That could be very painful, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.
I remembered a particular day, we were on the swing and they dared me to jump from the swing while on motion. I taught about the danger, I also taught of the jest and laughter I’ll have to endure for the next 1week or so. I weighed my options and decided to do the jump. I did the jump and was applauded as hero but injured my shoulder, oh, what a painful experience. I had to nurse the pian myself, couldn’t tell my mum, God, I hope she’s not reading this…lol
Friends, I can imagine you laughing, not at me but at yourself because you did same! So, what has this got to do with Lift today?
The gist is this, the older we get, the more careful and less daring we get! We seem to be so afraid, more analytical and we suddenly become experts at giving reasons why something will not work. We know all the dangers involved and manufacture the relevant excuses.
No wonder, Jesus said we must become like the little children (Matt.18:3). They know less fear and are very daring. No matter how much you warn a child to stay away from naked fire, he probably will not stop until he trys it. Learn to be daring. Get back to those days when you take a dare as a challenge that must be conquered. Do away with timidity (to be continued)
